Randy Halberstadt book
Has anyone gotten that Randy Halberstadt book?  First time I've heard of it, and it looks pretty good.  Is it worth it?

MusicNotes.com announcement
Wow, I asked the guys at MusicNotes.com to increase my commission to 12% on affiliate sales, and they thought the site was nice enough with enough traffic, so they agreed.  It didn't hurt that another comapny was trying to get LJP affiliation at 12%, but it was cool that MusicNotes.com actually responded and wanted to keep LJP as an affiliate.

I'll have to see if I can increase some of the exposure for books and such to make the change worth their while (and mine too :)

Thinking in Jazz by Paul F. Berliner

Scot you should really see if you can get a line on this book. I swear it is THE most informative well-researched and definitive book on the subject of Jazz ever written.

Not only does it have interviews and philosophies, but it is chock full of exceptional transcriptions illustrating every point. The discography is one of the most inclusive I've seen and even though it's almost a thousand pages long it is a real "page turner".

Funk keyboards
Could I just say that that Funk Keyboards book doesn't live up to its blurb at all.  I took a look at it in a shop, and it's for complete beginners to keyboard.  Just a warning in case anyone was looking for a specialised book on funk - that one is very basic, and if you've got any experience of music at all you'd be far better off just listening to some funk records instead.

Ok, thanks for the update!  One person told me the book was really cool, and maybe it is for beginners. I'll add that it's a beginner book to the blurb.

Anyone got this book?

I was really excited about getting it, and there are some great essays in there, but i found most of it was ill-explained and too way out for my liking (ie the example of 'My Funny Valentine'

book...
I have been playing music for some time. I play sax but I am starting to play piano. I have some piano abilities but few. I need a book that does all of the things that I read on the home page. I don't know if anybody can help, but I'll be checking the site for responses...

JAZZ PIANO: CREATIVE CONCEPTS AND TECHNIQUES, JEFF GARDNER
Has anyone tried the above book?  Jeff Gardner'a book goes into great detail, including a massive voicings section, including ii Vs turnarounds etc, as well as hybrids tetrachords and loads of other stuff.  It's about 500 pages long and is written in English and French.  Loads of jazz studies at the end, and I really would recommend it.  Was quite hold to get hold of hee in UK but sure all of you guys in U.S. will be able to get it easily.  Just type it into search engine.  Really great book.  Worth every penny(cent!)
