| Ralph Patt | |
| I'd like to email Ralph Patt - his website leads me to microsoft outlook (for email) which I don't do. Do you have an email address for him. pc | |
| flicklers -- 08/06/2006, 14:52:19 -- #29122 | |
| When you hover your mouse over the link it should display something like Mailto: xxxx@yyyyyyy in the feedback bar at the bottom of your browser and the xxxx@yyyyyyy is the e-mail address you want. Alternatively right click on the link and look at properties for that info. | |
| Scot -- 08/07/2006, 12:55:45 -- #29152 | |
| Even easier is to right click on the email link and select the "copy email" menu item that comes up. Then use your regular email program and copy the email address into it. | |

| Am I missing the core skills/aptitudes? | |
| I have dabbled with the piano during a long working career and now am near retirement want to devote more time to learning to play jazz piano. No plans to go professional - just personal enjoyment. Huge fan of the greats, from Morton to Peterson and the incomparable Brubeck. Now - while I can improvise in my head from a basic tune and even hum the notes - can't grasp how to transpose it onto the keyboard. Never seems to work or sound right. Am working my way through the lessons -will it come with practice or do you simply either have it or not? | |

| It definitely comes with practice. I always recommend starting with simple tunes like Twinkle Twinkle and Mary Had A Little Lamb. For example, knowing that Twinkle starts with two tonics and two dominants ( 1 1 5 5 ) should help you to play the tune in other keys. Starting with this analytical/theoretical approach will likely jump-start the mindset to transpose subconsciously. Of course knowing your major scales in all twelve keys helps too. Good luck and groove on! | |

| Yes, it just takes time. Start with very easy things, listen to simple jazz music and try to play it. Your ears will grow the more you do this. Don't get frustrated, and never practice fast what you can't play slow. The more you practice properly, that is not practicing mistakes, the faster you will improve in these areas. It's a journey that we are all on, sit back and enjoy it, we were all at the same level once, don't forget that. | |
