Qwee -- 01/08/2005, 19:24:19 -- #10213
Hello
Well, just on a whim, I did a google search for "Gateway to Reality" bbs, and here I am. Hey, Scot! Been a very long time.

Scot -- 01/14/2005, 13:55:00 -- #10389
Well, what do you know, it's Qwee. What have you been up to since I last saw at WWU oh so many years ago?

I built this citadel system in order to eventually put Gateway back online but time does not allow me to add the necessary plugins for fantasy RPG right now.

The infamous Berujommi has been lurking about here quite a big- take a look at the Scot's Studio room in the root hall.

Nice to hear from you!

FredMSloniker -- 03/17/2005, 20:53:22 -- #12024
I dunno if you remember me...
...but I sure remember you.  I used to hang out on Gateway to Reality right around 1990.  I was more of a lurker than a player, but I did have a character or two.  If I remember right (it's been 15 years), people got together for croquet matches now and again, yes/no?  I also remember the fancy map that I had to print out on three strips of dot-matrix paper and carefully tape together.  Ah, the things we did before GIFs...

Scot -- 03/17/2005, 22:01:39 -- #12029
Ah, FredMSloniker... I remember your name.  Don't remember your character(s), though. What were they?

The croquet matches were the best part of GTR :)

FredMSloniker -- 03/18/2005, 19:50:15 -- #12050
Well...
The only one I remember off the top of my head was Fizzit, the wild mage.  Didn't play as him long, though.  Like I said, I was mostly a lurker.

One of those croquet matches had a huge impact on my life, though.  It was at the one I attended, to which someone brought copies of 'Xanadu' and Paul Kidd's 'Albedo' RPG, that I officially became a furry fan.  Ah, the memories.

So, you still have all the files kicking around?  The printable map files, the room database, and so forth?  Or is all that's left in your head and in this site's software?

Scot -- 03/22/2005, 12:30:15 -- #12132
Oh, I have all the files. The only ones I don't have are the very very first batch of character files, which unfortunately contained the original version of Berujomii - which would be good for a laugh :)

(no disrespect intended)

The idea behind making this system is to eventually bring Gateway back up, but I have no idea if it will ever happen. At the very least I plan on putting up all the Gateway archives one of these days, excluding the actual citadel data files.   But the stories, character files, etc.

Berujomii -- 08/19/2006, 17:38:08 -- #29380
Rather than make a new room for the bird flu, I'll just use my personal room.  Go ahead and read my blog for background information.  We can use this room to discuss the blog since there's no way to post responses in the blog area.

I use newsnow for up to date information on the bird flu. Sometimes there are hours between news bites, sometimes it's every five minutes.  There are several new clusters now and over 100 people are suspected of infection in thailand.  There are currently now two mutated strains of HPAI (highly pathogenic avian influenza) commonly referred to as the H5N1 virus.  More and more cases of human transmission to human have occurred.

FredMSloniker -- 09/01/2006, 19:48:38 -- #29585
Where'd the old message bodies go?
Old message headers are still there, including mine, but the text of the messages is gone.  I don't expect messages to be retained forever, but if they were deleted intentionally, why didn't the headers go with?

Berujomii -- 09/04/2006, 16:58:00 -- #29636
Flu season is approaching.  Has everyone saved up any food like we were warned?

Scot -- 09/06/2006, 15:12:00 -- #29682
They were not deleted intentionally.  The messages headers stay because messages are archived and eventually I'll have links from the message headers to the archives.

Bird Flu
Flu season continues to approach.  Deaths occur several times a week at this point in time.  The bird flu has mutated into several forms in the last 5 months and is now tamiflu resistant.

Tyrinth
I just found a gateway to reality website called tyrinth.com-gateway

Scot -- 11/02/2006, 10:35:43 -- #30893
Tyrinth
Yep, that's where I have all the old stuff.  I put that together back in '98 when I was thinking of putting the BBS online.  Instead the software is being used for this site, a much better BBS endeavor than Gateway.

Berujomii -- 11/10/2006, 16:43:38 -- #31072
Scot, if you want to instant message, give me your email address since this current version of your website doesn't have live chats.

Scot -- 11/11/2006, 10:03:18 -- #31087
I don't have any instant message clients installed on my computer.  The next update to this site, however, in a week or two will have a much better chat option (it's already installed on my test site and works great)

Berujomii -- 11/11/2006, 16:17:14 -- #31101

My financial aid cleared for school, I start Jan 2.  Four months from now it will all be over and I can take the state exam to be a CNA.  I receive the vouchers for the class and supplies on the 18th of Dec

Scot -- 12/01/2006, 11:31:23 -- #31510
Good job, John!

Berujomii -- 12/02/2006, 16:18:25 -- #31526
The weeks and days are counting down, I'm currently training my dog to get along without me cuz school is 6.5 hours a day, not counting bus time.  Fortunately (the odds of this are small) the bus I catch is only a block away from my apartment building.  It was one of the biggest breaks this year.

Berujomii -- 12/14/2006, 19:17:00 -- #31721
Countdown to school is continuing.  What u doing for xmas, scot?

Berujomii -- 12/20/2006, 19:31:49 -- #31831
Well, after four days I finally have power.  My fridge didn't go down, but I only had one light and spent days of freezing.

Whacky -- 12/21/2006, 03:37:17 -- #31839
whoa - sorry to hear that...hat happened to me last summer - we threw out thre refridgerators full of food...

We just had a major power outage here in St Louis Nov 30 - another 500,000 home without power for a week or more.  Somehow our neighborhood did not lose ours this time -  I can't imagine how horrible it must be when the temp is in the teens or lower...

Berujomii -- 12/24/2006, 14:05:24 -- #31949
wednesday I pay for tuition and supplies for school.  Merry xmas everyone

Berujomii -- 12/27/2006, 15:04:55 -- #32016
Well, tomorrow is the big day for paying the tuition.  I went today but the lady who handles the vouchers got snowed in and wasn't there.  So I go back tomorrow.  The funding did go thru though.

Berujomii -- 12/28/2006, 17:08:12 -- #32034
Well, I paid tuition today and got my books, I start next tuesday.  All I need is the scrubs, DVR is sending me a check in the mail this coming week for that.

Berujomii -- 01/01/2007, 16:15:41 -- #32081
Tomorrow is the first day of school.  Will be going to bed by 8pm tonight to make sure I sleep.

Berujomii -- 01/02/2007, 17:15:41 -- #32115
Well, today was the first day of class.  More orientation type stuff.  Had homework but I'd already read the chapter so it only took me maybe 10 minutes.  First test is this thursday.  Fri-Sat I take the HIV bloodborne disease class then next week the cpr firs aid class.

Well, the first week is done, 11 more to go

Scot -- 01/11/2007, 15:50:18 -- #32311
How do you feel?  Are you going to make it?

Berujomii -- 01/12/2007, 10:22:01 -- #32340
I've been getting good grades.  Yesterday was a snow day.  Today wasn't, but the bus was canceled due to the ice.  Which is bad because I was supposed to do the first aid/cpr class today.  Left voicemail and even called the head of the nursing office, but no one answered.  None of them, even instructors, are probably there.

Scot -- 01/13/2007, 09:38:58 -- #32372
Where do you live these days?  Where are you taking the classes?

Berujomii -- 01/13/2007, 15:31:23 -- #32381
I live on top of Capitol Hill.  I'm taking the class at South Seattle Community College.

Just tried to order pizza but it would take over an ahour and a half for delivery.

Berujomii -- 01/24/2007, 17:31:23 -- #32667
The fourth week is almost over, 8 more to go.  Tomorrow is my friday, I won't have to be back in class til tuesday.

Did you know some of the GTR stories are online?

After reading the Day of Ice, it brings back a lot of memories. Maybe next summer I will put gatewaytoreality.com up (I own the domain) and start the thing up again.  It sure was fun to write all those things, but awfully time consuming and I just don't have the time. Have to find a batch of good referees- should be easy on the internet!

Berujomii -- 01/29/2007, 17:40:33 -- #32753
I did know about the gtr website.  I look forward to gateway being back up again.  I'd be a ref but by that time I'll be working at least part time.  Midterms are on thursday this week.

Berujomii -- 02/02/2007, 12:39:37 -- #32841
There was a fire at my apartment today.  Check to see me on tv on channel 4 at 5pm, today is 2/2/07

Scot -- 02/03/2007, 08:47:28 -- #32859
What were you trying to burn down this time?

:)

Berujomii -- 02/03/2007, 16:47:50 -- #32868
Listen, I can't describe the pure power of fire. :)  It wasn't me.  I just got back from the CPR/First Aid class.  I am now certified in both cpr and first aid, which is a requirement to go to clinicals.  I'm two weeks early.  I went to the red cross becuz i failed to show up at sccc cuz of snow.  However, I only had to put in 7 hours and everyone else had to put it 20 hours.  Plus I have the cards now and they still are waiting to get them in the mail.

Berujomii -- 02/07/2007, 18:33:53 -- #32924
I survived midterms

Scot -- 02/08/2007, 09:36:18 -- #32928
Surviving is good.  Did you conquer them?

Maybeck Recital Hall Series, Vol 1-4: Norris, Brackeen, Hyman, McKenna
Berujomii -- 02/08/2007, 15:40:55 -- #32930
I'm surviving anyway.  How's the plan to set up Edgekeep going?

If you do set up edgekeep, maybe you should get some dice.  That will make the game fairer, rather than having some people being all powerful.

Scot -- 02/12/2007, 19:16:10 -- #33000
No dice on the dice.  There's no way to monitor what's going on.  I think the best way to do is is impartial referees (hopefully impartial) and formulas based on character experience.  There will be more "automatic" results based on that data than there was in the old system, though, simply because I can program whatever I want.

There will be a definite tilt against evil characters much like the old system.  I personally want to see characters working together on quests and such for the good of all, plus copious amounts of treasure and magical objects.  If there is to be evil characters, they will be NPC characters.

Now, as long as evil characters don't try to create chaos in Edgekeep, there is a lot of room for them to grow in power and such by undertaking quests and doing "evil" things. Such as making a pact with a horde or dwarves in the north only to back stab the dwarven leader to take his coin purse later.

I'm open to suggestions, but it's going to be tough going for any character who wants to 'take over' without working together with other characters.

Berujomii -- 02/13/2007, 17:48:40 -- #33035
I actually had the chance to play a live game with some friends for about a year before I quit.  I had absolutely no problems getting along.  Maybe DQ, Phaedrus, Duke Stephen, Lanoi and the others simply weren't frieds.  Also, the boards used to polarize us into groups for the rag war anyway.

I passed midterm and have an average grade of 91.2%

Berujomii -- 02/15/2007, 15:19:14 -- #33083
7th week of school done, 5 more to go.  Not tomorrow but next saturday is the first clinical. Wore my scrubs first time today at school (many have been wearing their scrubs.)  Give me your email address sometime scot and I'll send you a pic of berujomii in scrubs.

Berujomii -- 02/18/2007, 16:26:34 -- #33155
You know, Scot, instead of setting up Edgekeep again we could have a live game.  I have a community room in my apartment building that's big enough.  I'm not good enuf to be a dungeon master, but we could all contribute money for the game modules.  I have dice somewhere or I could get some more if somebody else has the player guide and dm guide.  It would probably be a lot more entertaining, since a live game would go faster than Edgekeep and would save you hours a day going over actions and messages since we would only do it once a week.  There's enough room in the community room for 10 or even more players.  It would also get rid of the sitch of everyone trying to kill each others characters.

Berujomii -- 02/20/2007, 19:08:25 -- #33211
Where you living these days yourself, Scot?  I remember that rental house you had during Edgkeepian times.

I still think we should do a live game.  It would be more satisfying for everyone involved.

Maybeck Recital Hall Series, Vol 1-4: Norris, Brackeen, Hyman, McKenna
Berujomii -- 02/23/2007, 15:16:49 -- #33295
Tomorrow is first clinical.  Will keep you posted.  4 more weeks of school left.

Berujomii -- 02/24/2007, 18:02:55 -- #33307
The clinical was easy, have 3 more to go til I graduate.  We helped feed today, most were unresponsive.  Fortunately, my patient ate if I held the spoon to her lips.  She'd giggle every now and then but was otherwise completely unresponsive.  My advice for you all is, stay in your house or apartment and have a chore worker come over, don't go to these elderly group homes as you age.

Scot -- 03/01/2007, 14:38:27 -- #33432
I haven't been around a bit. Live gaming isn't really something I'm interested in. I enjoy the writing aspect of what we did on Edgekeep more than the actual gaming aspect, it was more of a vehicle for me to write fantasy related adventure material.

Berujomii -- 03/01/2007, 18:17:59 -- #33439
Well, me too, but live gaming is far superior.  3 more weeks of school.

Berujomii -- 03/04/2007, 17:57:02 -- #33506
Finished my second clinical, not very difficult.

Berujomii -- 03/14/2007, 10:31:26 -- #33777
Final clinical is on Saturday.  I'm on the computer at the college right now.  I have to finish up finals for skills exam in half hour.  If I pass today, I only have to show up tomorrow to finish one little detail and then I come back on tues and wed for non-class related items, like a potluck on wed

Maybeck Recital Hall Series: Bill Mays: listening to this is like having a lesson.
Berujomii -- 03/15/2007, 13:17:06 -- #33804
Passed finals by the skin of my teeth.  Wed is the last day of the class.  We're having a potluck, I'm bringing chips.

Berujomii -- 03/15/2007, 14:22:00 -- #33806
Scot, guess what - I just found phaedrus on www.slumberland.org
I wasn't allowed email so left my email address and how to google your website here.

Berujomii -- 03/15/2007, 14:22:14 -- #33807
I'm having another bacon binge tonight.

Berujomii -- 03/17/2007, 16:08:36 -- #33852
Passed all clinicals with a total of 96%

Berujomii -- 03/20/2007, 17:40:06 -- #33948
Passed the class with a 92%, soon after the state exam I will be a licensed healthcare professional.

Berujomii -- 03/21/2007, 19:19:11 -- #34066
Officially graduated, and have my certificate.  State exam is may 5

Good job!

On a side note, I just talked to Phaedrus the other day :)

Berujomii -- 03/25/2007, 18:17:53 -- #34185
still thinking about edgekeep?  Slumberland.org is running citadel software, maybe you can get it from little nemo

Berujomii -- 04/03/2007, 19:48:33 -- #34366
Still thinking about edgekeep scot?  I still think we should have a live game.

Berujomii -- 04/25/2007, 17:54:17 -- #34729
Hey scot, I have been calling slumberland and they have a multiuser telnet citadel system.  I think it's linux tho.  I thought we could use it if the game ever comes back.

Scot -- 05/17/2007, 09:08:19 -- #35109
Hey there- Edgekeep is in my mind but it's not really a top priority.

I know of many online citadels, the old style, telnet cits, ones that have a web gui.

When the system gets up and running one day, I'll use this system and program in a bunch of custom stuff that helps with RPG.

I'm not really interested in live gaming, I certainly don't have time for it at all with all that's going on.  That's why I like the online thing. I can figure something out and the next day there's a response. Takes a while, but it paces it and keeps the whole thing in perspective as far as relating to the rest of life goes.
