All above messages
You guys all seem really in a hurry. Just listen a lot and pick up what you can off records and other people and prioritize what you want to learn. Like, if you think the most important thing is to be able to read chords, learn that first then move on. Youll learn fast.

hey! this me austin 4rm nigeria...  i play some contemporary... but i prefer contp. jazz.. anyway this my advice 4 u  guys learning jazz chords can be sometimes boring esp wen u don't know where it applies... tat where your listening skills come into play.... listen to tapes score them.....  do more than rewind those tapes...  i guess it better to listen than to dwell on crappy chords tat u probably don't know au it goes......  i want to let u know tat consistency... possing an unbreakable 'WILL' could help u too... another thing is passion...... i have more than just talk... see ya in subsequent writings

Start by going to Albetan's Area. There is a wealth of knowledge there and it is readily accessible. It is the best place to start IMHO. After digesting much of that (which will take quite some time) you can then go to other rooms. Pay special attention to 7's stuff here and at his site http://www.jeff-brent.com/, it contains a ton of things to learn and practice. You must initiate your study here on your own. Usually it is best to ask only specific questions that you may not quite comprehend. Generic, individualized attention would best be sought from a personal teacher. Read many of the posts and visit aall the rooms, you will learn  enough to get started.
Peace out!
