Very easy- listen to what he plays and then play it exactly like him.  It might take a while, but that's how you do it.

Get the Oscar transcription book and cd!

jjboogiejj -- 08/27/2007, 16:39:59 -- #36595
its simple
get the transcription book and cd, and then experiment by taking some of his signature licks and intertwining them into your own music

That's what I did. I have the Canadian Suite book, got it when I was around 18, and played through a lot of the stuff in it. Learned Place St. Henri, Hogtown Blues, and a couple others.  Just full of OP licks, wonderful stuff that can EASILY be used in your own playing.

It's a message board, not a chat room.  Post your questions and there are numerous helpful types here (pros and otherwise) who will take shots at answers.  In general, work through the lessons here.  They are excellent.  Then, hang out in the piano lounge and soak up more advanced knowledge.
