LearnJazzPiano.com archives: Use of certain Midi files
Clarinetist -- 01/05/2005, 13:05:01 -- #10134
I would like to use certain midi file improvisions submitted by Mr. Scot Ranney in a student movie contest entry for the TCEA contest.  Their site is WWW.TCEA.org  I would like permission to do so.
EMAIL: Stephencox@gaggle.net
Thank you.

Which midi files do you want to use and exactly how are they going to be used?  If you wanted to use some of my playing, I would much rather record something new and give you mp3's or something like that.

Here is what I'm doing:

The video is ghost chase comedy stroy, and very short, about seven minutes in all.  I need three themes
One: a eerie jazzy theme for the intro, fairly slow.  Original I was going to record myself on clarinet playing Anitra's Dance with classic piano, but I can't get a good accompaniment.  If you could produce a jazzy version of Anitra's Dance it would be perfect, and amazing, but any eerie theme would work.  A free arrangement of Anitra's Dance is avaliable  at
http://www.sheetmusicarchive.net/index.cfm
Writer: Grieg, Edvard

The Second is when a thief is sneaking in the background.  I need a sneaky theme something Pink Panther style, but of coarse not the Pink Panther for copywrite restrictions.

Lastly a boggie theme for the chase theme.  I original rendered the scene to Sing, Sing, Sing, and that fell was fairly good.  Just along those lines.

About two minutes of each theme would work, but longer versions could be helpful also.  Also I need these by the end of January.

Thank You very much for considering this project/challenge.  Tell me what you think

Is the video finished? It would be nice to see the actual footage so the nuances of the recordings fit the action of the film.

I can easily whip up that music- sounds like fun.

Spell my name right on the credits :)

Okay, the video is not quite finished, but I hope it will be in a couple of days.  I could email the finished footage but it would be eaiser if you had a place I could upload it, it is about 40 megs.

Also I may not reply until monday, I have State band tryouts this weekend.  Thanks.

Correction, the file, finished without credits is 67 megs.  This file has music I found on this site just for refference, you bluesology, improvision2001, and another Boggie some I found on the old midi's but I forgot whos it was.  It will take  a while to finished the credits as I want them, but any music will work for them.

So I can upload this if I have a location.

Hmm, ok I'll try to figure out a place to get that thing uploaded.

Sounds good Just find a place and I'll send it.  You could probably do alright without it though.  I would also like the keys you play these songs in that way I can improv. over them some at couple of spots where my saxophone and Clarinet make a cameo. thanks.

We found a place to hide it on our school web page.  At this page:
http://www.earlyisd.net/hs/finearts/bandpages/bandhome.htm
Scroll to the bottom, it is linked to the smiley-note.  Download it and leave a message so I know to delete it.  It is the whole move with test music, your bluesy, improvision 2001, and a boogie also with the old site files, but I forgot whose.  These show where the music will change.  Also, the credits will follow the end of the film, with some funny pictures and bloopers.  One of the songs for the can just be repeated here.  There ya go and thanks.  Tell me what you think.

I checked it out.  I think the music you have probably works just fine- feel free to use it.

If I might offer my opinion, I think the music needs to have a lot less presence. I would say take an equalizer and remove some of the top and bottom end to give it a more of a feeling like it's not right in your face, you know?

Looks like you're having fun with it, that's for sure- keep it up!

TO use this music, I probably need a letter with permission to use them from the performer and or composer, to use Bluesy, I don't even know who wrote it and I would also need permission from the boogie performer.
If you could perform a boogie and post it, I would be easier to recieve permission from you for all three, the improvision, bluesy(If not under copy write) and a boogie.
If you could write a permission letter and send it to my supporting teacher

I played all the music you are using in those midi files, and the "Bluesology" is so loose that it doesn't really follow what Milt Jacksoin wrote anyway. I'll be happy to send a  letter out.

What is your name and the name of your project? I'll have to put that in the letter.
