| Hey guys! I just picked up The Thesaurus of Scales book by Slominsky. I was wondering if anyone practices this stuff and has some tips on how to practice and apply... Thank in advance! | |

| I generally practice the lines with two hands and transpose them into five or six different keys (randomly chosen). As for practical application, I've been able to expand some of my improv ideas, but I rarely use any of the patterns as written. The most useful thing for me is training my fingers to play lines that they aren't used to playing, which in itself opens up my improv because it gets my hands/fingers used to playing outside my comfort zone. | |

| Yea I noticed that right off the bat. My fingers weren't used to playing alot of the patterns at first, but then I got used to the one's I have been shedding. I also noticed a familiar pattern fingering while improvising... hehe. Lately I have been working on the whole tone section since its the only area I found that is the easiest to apply to my improvs. I picked up a new book called "The right hand according to Tatum" Has a bunch of his signature licks with fingerings and analysis. The second section contains 10 transcriptions with all of the licks from the first section. The only bad thing is trying to find the recordings :-( I got 3 out of 10 so far... | |
