I have just transcribed the piano slo on the Sting song Never coming home. Does anyone of you knoew any similar solos like the one Rebello plays on this tune? How is his trio works? It is an amazing solo....

Wow Ole, I would love to see that.  Is if from the live version or the studio version of Never Coming Home.

Kenny Kirkland raved about him to Sting and when KK overdosed, JR got the call.  Check out KK's solo on Bring On The Night/When the World Is Running Down from the first live cd. You'll hear the similarities immediatlely.

The DVD was just released last week in honor of the 20th anniversary of the movie release.  Just picked up my copy at lunch today and can't wait to get home from work to watch it!!!

I think it is the studio version. I have heard the Kirkland solo as well. They are very similar, but the one with Rebello is easier to transcribe because of the sound quality. Maybe I post the transcription here as soon as I write it down in a music notaion program. Is his trio work as funky as his playing on with Sting?

It depends on the setting.  Jason's work has been reasonably eclectic and has covered mainstream stuff throught to funky stuff with elements of rap.

If you're into his playing from his work with sting, then I suggest trying to get hold of the album 'Make It Real' which is a bit different in that half of the album is groove based songs with quite a large band and the other half is more jazzy trio stuff.  There's a great version of summertime done with a wicked piano groove and and rap section!

Hope this helps...

I like the album 'Next Time Round'. It's more of a straightahead album with a version of 'Jerusalem' which actually works. There's a tribute tune to KK on it too. There's also a  version of 'I hear a Rhapsody' with Monkish type bits in it.

Check out the live Sting DVD "Inside Sacred Love" for more JR playing....
