LearnJazzPiano.com archives: Suggestions for standards in 3/4 time?
Dreamboat -- 04/12/2005, 17:03:28 -- #12755
I'm really digging playing in 3/4 at the moment.

Some that I know of already :

Tenderly
Bill Evans - Elsa, Waltz for Debby, Someday my Prince, etc.

Any futher suggestions?

The "Theme from Mr. Broadway", which is in one of the Real Books.  Its by Dave Brubeck, and works great for solo piano. I have no idea what the origin of the title is.

Also, La Fiesta, by Chick Corea.  Very cool, but listen to a recording so you can make the lead sheet a bit more interesting, and pay attention to the corrections if you are using the Real Book.

Just about every recording I've heard of Fly Me To The Moon is in 4/4.  Why is that?

I think it was originally in 3/4.

pringe,

Minor tunes that attempt to follow a circular formula ALL tend to be similar. For more information on WHY that is the case, read

http://Jeff-Brent.com/Lessons/minors.html

Pay special attention to chapter 5 entitled "The Broken Circle".

Also available as a pdf in the files in the room here called "7's Heaven".
