| Does anybody know any good places for me to start transcribing some good sixteenth note base lines? Maybe some good double time sections or (even better) modal tunes? Ideally they wouldn't be lightinging quick otherwise i might have problems playing them. Thanks all! | |

| I just transcribed the other day Al Haig's solo (one chorus) on "Laird Baird" -- it's short, easy to transcribe, and makes extensive *musical* use of sixteenth note runs. Hampton Hawes's solos sometimes include sixteenth-note runs which are played right on the beat (i.e., easy to transcribe) -- I can't think of one in particular at the moment like this. Sonny Rollins, "Blue Seven" -- some classic little runs in sixteenths. Jimmy Smith, "Just Friends" (from "House Party") -- just to be perverse, in case you *really* want to keep busy for a while. | |

| Hey, I was actually referring to sixteenth note based lines...not sixteenth note bass lines. Hope that clarifies. Thanks, James | |

| For 16th note lines I think of a steaming locomotive goin' daun 'de tracks...I even make the sound with my mouth, it really helps me especially when I'm reading fast complicated 16th note lines or rhythms, you know, the kind that aren't just 4 16th notes for each quarter note. | |

| many things go through my head when I read this last reply :)...albeit this reply has nothing to do with sixteenth note transcriptions but I do appreciate your creativity. Thanks for the answer Solart. Peace, James | |

| I am always amazed when a bassist can play 16th-note lines so fast without bowing. Sorry, I just had to see "bassist". | |

| When I was young, my class went to see Joe Pass, Mama Cass and Philip Glass. Joe Pass is also great on bass, and Mama Cass was a big lass. Philip Glass played a mass which was totally crass. We smoked some grass and I began to harass Mama Cass. Then the security guards kicked out the entire class en mass, then the other kids kicked my ass. | |
