| it's okay. it's for beginners. it covers a & b style voicings, and a few scales, but doesn't really help point you towards a coherent usage for them. I think you would be best off studying line development, chord tone targetting and transcribing. there are a couple of transcriptions in it that are worth the price of admission. but I think it's better to transcribe things ourselves. your time would be better spent transcribing his recordings. Another thing is that, Joey D is great in the more modern setting, but when he's playing bop oriented stuff he's not doing much that clifford brown or bird didn't do. But, that aside, his modern stuff is more captivating and also not even touched on in this book. peace, tom | |
