Any one knows some funk songs with funny piano stuff in it?

SolArt -- 07/12/2005, 16:03:43 -- #16443

a funky piano comp. What i mean with funny is that it should be funny to play.

Take a couple of Dr John's CDs & call me in the morning!  I respectively suggest that you might start w/Dr John's All By Hisself, Trippin' Live & Duke Elegant.

I like Edgar Winter's earlier albums, ENTRANCE, THEY ONLY COME OUT AT NIGHT, & SHOCK TREATMENT. There are some funky examples in there in particular songs.

I find it a crying shame Edgar didn't ascend the Jazz Piano ladder, because he would've been so good at it, if you ask me, and it would've helped turn more people on to Jazz, especially if he mixed it with his Gospel/Blues stuff.

I've heard his recent stuff but it's basically a downer for me, I really expected more of him. C'mon Edgar...

Jeff Lorber published an article in Keyboard magazine that showed all the tricks of funk keyboard comping. The soloing is mostly blues and scales pentatonics plus all the other jazz fusion scales.

Hi Jazz+! Do you know where I could get my hands on that article?

bavern -- 07/19/2005, 09:41:42 -- #16723
Thanks Jazz+ that's what i'm talking about=)

Jazz+ -- 07/20/2005, 03:05:02 -- #16760
I think it was on the Keyboard Magazine website in their archives. They also republished the article in their annual "How To Jam" special manual. The public library should have the back issue that it was originaly published in. I made  copies of it when it was first published.

Hi Bavern
Here's one reference for the "How To Jam" from Keyboard,
"How to Jam" Spring 2003. I also find some of the articles
from 2003 posted on www.howtojam.com.
