| I was just wondering if any of y'all have bought equipment on line from a private individual. Are there any precautions that can be taken so I don't get ripped of? I'd appreciate greatly any thoughts on this subject. Thanks! Paul | |

| It's a wild world out there. If you buy on eBay and use PayPal you (usually) have a certain amount of protection from outright fraud. A bigger problem is receiving an item that is not quite as described. | |

| The seller doesn't have PayPal or anything like that. I thought I'd maybe try UPS COD.(cash upon delivery) Any one had any experiance with this service? Sorry about this very non jazz piano thread! Paul | |

| This is a good thread. I have purchased quite a bit of equipment from individuals on-line, however it's always been through protected means- credit card, paypal, etc. If your seller is OK with COD, there's no reason no to do it that way as long as they subtract the fees from the price so you aren't stuck with them. Another thing you might do is forget about this particualr seller if you have any questions about the deal at all- just find another one online and buy it. Personally, I don't buy much equipment online any more. Too much hassle if something goes wrong... now that the Guitar Center stores pretty much carry stuff just about at the online prices, it pays to buy local for me. | |

| yeah I'd perfere to buy from Guitar Center but I simply can't afford a new marimba. I've been looking for allmost a year for this particular model. From the pictures this instrument looks to be in mint condition. The seller also seems to be a sweet old lady but as alhaynes said above "it's a wild world out there" | |
