| In Measure number 4 of the form Coltrane continuously plays a flatted 9th on the D7th chord in his improvisation. What about Flanagan? is he playing a Flat 9 or a natural 9 there while comping.... Does anyone know the answer? | |

| Oh man you dont know how many times I had to re-do this because of my computer, when pressing "send" going onto the page about Monk... for the fourth time... 1st chorus- natural 9th 2nd- natural 9th 3rd- flat 9th 4th- flat 9th 5th- flat 9th 6th- natural 9th 7th- natural 9th 8th- flat 9th 9th- natural 9th 10th- flat 9th I think...bearing in mind I was stressed because I lost what Id written loads of times and then kept losing which chorus I was in due to starting and stopping the record in different places its probably not all that good after all lol Hope its of some help Rick | |

| Rick -- 03/04/2004, 10:23:42 -- #2087 | |
| It went to the Thelonius Monk page on this site. Its ok, I dont think its a fault, just something to do with my web server as I had this site up twice apparently. Got there in the end though! | |

| I don't understand Rick... you seem to answer the question so confidently for every chorus but then you say he may not be playing any ninths? I don't get it. | |
| Mike -- 03/04/2004, 18:43:33 -- #2106 | |
| oh but thanks for taking the time to answer anyways. | |

| Yeah, lol please forget that comment...At first I thought...well he may actually not be playing a ninth on the chords where I didnt hear a flat 9...it was late, just ignore me! I think my answer is quite accurate...but Im open for a harsh criticism, if wrong :-) | |
