yes BW they really have a great thing going on Is the alternate take where Bill lays down that great bass line?

BlackWhiteKey -- 09/26/2006, 18:19:33 -- #29858
yup, and also the syncopated chords against hall's guitar.

I'me agree with that, this song is the best of the album.
I'm trying to transcribing it currently...
I've transcribed the beginning of Bill's walking bass (the first AABA), and the beginning of his solo (the 2 first A).
What Bill plays on this song is wonderful !

Dear Groyann it seems to me WONDERFUL was just about average for him Charlie

I just heard the complete album {undercurrent} it is hard to believe only  two instruments can make such beautiful music it lacks nothing, but in the hands of these two musicians?? this album makes me  Proud to be a jazz lover

Yes. And it becomes a so better performance when you know how difficult it is for a pianist to play with a guitarist !!
A enormous lesson for me. I know I will spend a lot of hours on this transcription of My Funny Valentine !! (I already spent couple of week-end... I'm so slow...

hahaha i'm not even gonna try to transcribe that song. hahaha.its wonderous how two intstruments played against eachother could sound so full.

Just bought and received this wonderful album, thanks guys for the suggestion.
The only disappointment deals with the sound quality of the recording, as it's a remaster. You'd better listen to it on a good audio device, with ampli and perfect speakers.
For the rest, a wonderful moment, especially when you keep in mind it was first recorded in 1962, a very good year, in fact :)

I listen to it every week, it's essential album for me. I am focusing on I Hear A Rhapsody this week.

Funnily enough, this was one of those few Bill Evans albums that I really should have owned and didn't.  I'd heard the odd track before but not the whole album.  Only recently, I picked it up on a whim when I spotted it in a shop and I have to say, it's awesome.

Talking of Jim Hall and piano players, I also recently got Power of Three - Michel Petrucciani with Jim Hall and Wayne Shorter.  This is a live recording from the 20th Montreux Jazz Festival and is also an amazing album.  I heartily recommed it to anyone who enjoyed Undercurrent.

I personnally would add the wonderful Duke/Mingus/Roach "Money Jungle" album to this list, with a special "caravan" version on it.
I  heartily recommend it to anyone who enjoyed Undercurrent and Power of Three :)
