| No only will I censor, but I will without warning delete accounts that post or continue to post inappropriate messages that don't have anything to do with jazz piano. A little bit of idiocy goes a long ways and now it's getting tiring. | |
| Scot -- 09/28/2006, 02:23:53 -- #30116 | |
| I should also mention that if posts get to the point of being abusive towards the system, it's very easy to track the IP and send an abuse message to the ISP with the IP in question. Then I get the name and address of the post and take legal action. If you created an account here you signed a contract and posting innapropriate messages breaks the contract you signed. If you can't remember what the contract says, click on the "terms of use" link at the lower left hand corner of the page. | |

| It also pisses me off that I'm going to have to waste time creating a utility to completely delete a message from the threads because certain accounts take advantage of my generosity. Once a site starts pissing me off, it's lifespan tends to shorten quite a bit. It's not like this place pulls in any revenue that I'd lose if it goes down. I'd actually save money if it went down- it eats up so much bandwidth every month that I always have to pay extra. | |

| It's such a pitty that some guys alter to the quality of this site and Scot's efforts keeping this great site alive. Scot, we are with you. | |

| Scot, do you still have a piano fund? I do not expect you to eat all the costs associated with this site. Perhaps you could start a voluntary contribution feature for those willing and capable of donating. Thanks for all of your hard work and dedication. Peace out! Dennis | |

| So because a moron kid pisses you off, you're going to shut down the board and deprive all the serious people of a chance to ask questions and give advice? I mean this site has only been up a measly ten years and is frequented merely by some of the most amazing "unknown" Jazz pianists in the world. Who cares? It's not like anybody would shed a tear if you just threw away all the hard work put into this site by people like Albetan, Doug McKenzie, Sid Thomas and others. It would certainly be no more difficult to accept than the brutal murder of one of your children, or finding out that your lover is into gay bestiality. Go ahead, and pull the plug. I like wearing black. | |

| Oops, sorry you are probably still working on an utility to delete those troll threads. I understand exactly how annoyed you must be by the adolescent behavior. | |
| Scot -- 09/28/2006, 14:36:03 -- #30116 | |
| I'm not considering taking the board down, it just is rather annoying to have to babysit a few morons. | |
| DoubleZ -- 09/28/2006, 16:53:57 -- #30116 | |
| You can't delete posts?!? Then just do it directly through the DB, if you don't feel like writing a script. If it's that important. Too serious a forum is never a good thing, the stupidity keeps things relaxed and light-hearted. | |

| Scot. I understand your frustration too and also am very grateful to have the use of this site. As you must be aware, many people would be seriously upset if the site was closed but I am sure we all understand that you do need to keep it in its good state. Your piano fund is a good idea too to help with the costs. DoubleZ, I agree that it is good to have a bit of fun sometimes but not at the risk of losing THIS site which has very particular value. The stupidity can be fun for some, but I liken it to having a small child and getting it excited just before bed time (it won't settle down then and go to sleep), or having a puppy and letting it get over excited (It won't behave/obey commands then). Stupidity exists on many other boards. | |
| CynBad -- 09/29/2006, 08:04:57 -- #30116 | |
| Interesting, DoubleZ, considering you were the one who complained about Mike's humorous posts. | |
| DoubleZ -- 09/29/2006, 11:18:02 -- #30116 | |
| Yes, true, I bitched about it. But I didn't make a huge deal out of it. It was just a comment. It doesn't really matter. It's not a detrimental problem right now; but if it persists and everything just gets f'd up, then some sort of action should be taken. | |

| Scott, Could there be a way to create "moderators" so that the administration of the threads could be handled to some of the well known and trusted members? I would gladly volunteer for this work, I don't know about the other members, but THIS SITE has been for 2 years my best teacher, I can read whenever I want, and ask for any new material not present, and there is always someone to answer my question. even hardware questions, like when I was gonna buy my S90 keyboard and you helped me, or albetan or 7 when in the beginning solved all my theory questions... :| I know that if we all reject this type of messages, and do not contribute in stupid threads, the problem won't happen again. thanks for reading Scott (and programming, and contributing, and creating this, and all. ) | |
| Scot -- 09/30/2006, 09:21:41 -- #30116 | |
| Having moderators is on the list, but... basically, I need to set aside a week to work on this site and put in a lot of new things that are on the list. When that happens, there will be additional features such as moderators. | |

| Just curious, Scot. The ".mvc" extension on the files of this site is unfamiliar to me. What language is this programmed in, some breed of Perl? | |
| FransE -- 10/01/2006, 04:36:45 -- #30116 | |
| Scot, I don't get why you invent the wheel by writing your own system. If I were in your position I would use one of the existing forum systems out there. Safer, more features, less work. I see only advantages. Frans | |
| Scot -- 10/01/2006, 10:22:18 -- #30116 | |
| The .mvc extension is miva script. I use it because it's fast, compiled, has native database support, and it's faster to code in than C, perl, php, and most other scripting languages. Frans- the reason I don't use existing bulletin board (forum) systems out there is simple: they don't hav all the features I want. Also, because I can. When I want a new feature, such as the up and coming LJP Store, I don't have to go hire a programmer or look for modules to add that may or may not do exactly what I want. I simply sit down for a day and make it happen. | |
