| Hey Gang!! is it possible to figure out the changes to a tune by istening only to the melody?or by listening to the tune and really absorbing it? with out slowing it down? I`m sure the melody can lead you to many places. Specifically I mean the verse to EVER LOVIN ADELAIDE played by Bill Evans on the BILL EVANS and EDDIE COSTA play songs from GUYS AND DOLLS . Please bear with me it may be a foolish question. thx Charlie | |

| As you know, the main melody notes are virtually always chord tones. Most simple melodies are a breeze to figure out the underlying changes using simple logic (assuming you have a good command of theory). Figuring out the changes to a Jazz head from the melody alone, can be a challenge. And your changes might very well be different from the "standard" arrangement, but it WILL be YOUR ARRANGEMENT. And if it works for you, it'll work for your audience. | |
