| What is the best way to indicate a non root base if using roman numeral notation ? eg in the key of G, a G chord would be indicated by a I how would you then write a G with a b (the third) in the bass ? I/iii ? I/3 ? | |

| this is first inversion. Textbook harmonic anaylsis notation for this calls for the use of what is called figured bass. first inversion is I6... second iversion will not format properly here it is I with 6 over 4. | |
