| yeah - me too - what was that thing called??? It sure sounded terrible, but at least it had lots of noise --then I got my Boss CE-1 and started running in stereo -- yee hah! However, I was never able to get either Tatum's Rhodes or Wurly sound...maybe he ran through a Leslie? | |

| Tatum's rhodes sound was so unique because, not only did he have the tines farther back than other people, but they were made of a totally different material. Instead of metal, Tatum had a friend of his make him a set of porcelain tines. This is the reason why the sound has such a unique, bell-like quality to it. It's a measure of simply how unbelieavable Art's technique was that he didn't shatter the tines the first time he hit the key. To be able to make it work he had to play with amazing discipline and lightness of touch. No wonder he's considered to be the greatest! | |
