Does anybody know how legal it is to play somebody elses song on the internet? I get sheet music from an artist an record it, put it on youtube and? copyright violation? Does the song need to be some years old before others can post their versions?

If youtube is worried about copyright violations, they will pull the video, so don't worry about it.

On this site, copyrighted material is covered by an agreement with ASCAP.

I should say, performances of copyrighted material, not stuff like lead sheets and sheet music and such.

Thanks, so on this site it is fine :)
But in general: since I released a shareware chess program and found it on many crack sites I changed my mind how to deal with copyrights... Have to say I like it legal, even if it hurts the finances.
