| Here's my list of required Parker tunes, including the ones you've already learned: Anthropology - my first parker tune, great rhythm change head Now's the Time - easy and effective bebop blues head Donna Lee (this is a MUST know) Confirmation (another MUST know) Scrapple from the Apple (based on Honeysuckle Rose changes, try learning Scrapple in the right hand and Honeysuckle Rose in the left and play them at the same time) Au Privave - great blues head There's another based on Embraceable You changes.. it's an advanced head, really hard to phrase right, but one that a lot of "heavies" like to play.. what the heck is it... Ah yes, Quasimodo. | |

| and why are donna lee and confirmation must knows, and why is ornithology not in your list... is there a technical reason? TNX! | |

| Billy's Bounce is pretty popular too | |
| Scot -- 11/13/2006, 15:41:13 -- #31144 | |
| No, I just forgot to put Ornithology in. That and Billy's Bounce are a couple more "must know" Parker tunes. There are probably about a dozen in all that you should know, including the ones above, and if you do then you'll be impressive at any session where people call "Donna Lee" and you pull out the two handed Oscar Petersonesque melody along with the bass player who probably grew up listening to Jaco all the time. I love those sessions where everyone knows the tune, even the drummer, and all of a sudden you've got this sound happening and the audience looks around and it's very, very cool. | |

| Yes to all the above. My favourite Parker tune though is the little known blues called either "Drifting on a reed" or "Bigfoot" depending on which album you buy. Greg Osby does an absolutely killing version of it on one of his live albums.. | |

| Ah, another very good one that everyone knows is Moose the Mooche, a good rhythm changes tune with some alternate chords that are good to know. I also really like Merry Go 'Round. Not many people play it, but I think it's a very useful song because it contains virtually every recognizable Parker lick there is :) | |

| A shorter list might be; "Parker songs to avoid." | |

| Know the chord changes on Blues For Alice. Those are the famous "Parker blues changes." | |
