| Well, I tried the reviews room with no takers so... Does anyone have experience with Dick Hyman's Century of Jazz Piano CD-ROM and, if so, could you recommend it. It seems to be the source of the Tatum runs on YouTube. Thanks | |

| I haven't seen it, but from what I've heard, it's good. Hyman is not even human, really, he can play anything he wants, in any style he wants, as fast or slow as he wants. I've also heard he's a good educator and is able to convey his thoughts well in all of his videos. That's all I've heard without having any first hand experience though. | |

| Thanks -- sounds like a good Christmas present (for me of course). | |

| Years ago I bought Dick Hymans book/audio In the Styles of the Great Jazz Pianists. I have enjoyed listening to it but it is not easy to play (thought it would be). There are some flashy endings that I might just have to go back and 'borrow'! I thought I could do a bit of Jelly Roll Moreton until I saw how Dick does it. | |

| I Think its a great learning tool. He is realy good at imitating Tatum and Garner however I think the more modern guys like Tyner and Corea is not so convincing. (he recorded midi files in a lot of styles on the cd) | |

| Dick is spectacular in every way. Everything he touches is educational and first-class. | |

| I agree on the not human part. We have a disklavier disk of him playing standards, and just watching those keys fly is enough to make me think about giving up the piano altogether sometimes. | |

| YouTube has a bunch of clips from it, including some great Erroll Garner demonstrations. | |
