Have a read up of the Per Danielson link in the Comping room or recent discussion in this thread. http://www.halgalper.com/13_arti/_9_comp.htm is a good (overview) read too on comping. As well as Hal Galper, Phil deGregg book (search in bok reviews, I think) and Dan Haerle web site might lead to some satisfaction.  Comping has so many choices, I don't believe you can say what is 'typical'.

The same voicing will not always sound great with every style of jazz.
The fourthy voicings of McCoy Tyner would not work well in a traditional be-bop situation, for example.
