| Hello everyone, In the original recording of Superstition, i hear many parts of clavinet, seem to be many layered parts. Obviously, one must drop a few layers to play it live... I have seen Stevie playing it on videos but could not figure what he was doing. Anyone has a two-hands arrangement for the clavinet part? Thanks! | |

| I have the Hal Leonard Note for Note R & B Keyboard Transcription book which includes Superstition. It shows 2 Clavinet parts, one of which only plays a lower bass. I don't know if that helps but maybe if you listen with that it mind you can figure the piece out? Or I'm sure you can obtain the book via some of the links Scot has provided. | |

| Go to musicplayer.com Keyboard forum -- somebody may still be hosting the various mixes which feature Stevie's clav part from the original. Do a search -- you'll find it. Personally, I don't know if it's two or three parts -- or if it really matters so much when performing the tune live -- but it's fascinating to hear the raw tape. I have the six or seven Stevie Wonder tracking tracks, but I can't find them right now. Somebody will be able to get them to you, though, so you can study your brains out. If you're not at the level where you can transcribe, though, with the extra material I indicated above, I'd just pick up the book (with link to Scot) and try to make it work, especially if you get stuck. | |

| Thanks for your answers... I've found a mix of superstition with no voice on musicplayer.com Keyboard forum... I have difficulties at transcribing but the clav parts can be heard more clearly. And yes, i'll try to get a hold of the Hal leonard book. There was also mention of a "Stevie Wonder signature licks" book. Superstition has to be there... So i go back to work on the parts! | |

| Trivia fans: Although many think that "Superstition" was written by Stevie Wonder, it was in fact written by Jeff Beck. Mr Beck's original version totally kicks ass, and it contains a very very cool bridge section which, unfortunately, Stevie Wonder chose to leave out altogether. Please have a listen to Jeff Beck's ORIGINAL "Superstition". You will find it a pleasurable and illuminating experience. | |

| Has anyone here ever transcribed Stevie playing the song live to see how he approaches it? Is he actually playing the "bass" line in his left hand or is it split between the hands? | |

| I've seen some clips of Wonder playing it live -- I think he uses the thumb of the RH to get some of the "bass" part. It's been so long, I can't really remember. You're right in that it's pretty intricate -- it probably isn't just LH=do this and RH=do that. Both hands work together. Youtube, maybe? Didn't know that was a Jeff Beck tune -- as soon as I'm sure you're not yanking my chain, 7, I'll thank you for the titbit!. | |

| Do you ever sit up late at night.. like 3 am not being able to sleep because you are trying to imagine just how Art Tatum would have handled Superstition? | |

| I mean I talk to my therapist about it. She says back in the day I would have been commited to a hospital of some sort. | |

| ... At this time, right now, it's 9:30 here in Eastern Europe, maybe should you think about crossing the Atlantic for a new life to avoid these problems ... no, just kidding, forget that :) Anybody around you ? when you dialed 999, what did they say about that ? | |
