| Hey there, i'm a classical taught piano player, but i also play jazz and blues, that's not a really big problem (apart from the fact that counting sometimes is a bit different/difficult) although some basic jazz playing wouldn't be wrong at all. The real problem is the improvising, not that im really bad it, i don't know what to do next :P I mean i run out of options on a while i keep repeating the same stuff nothing excited. Basicly im looking for a book that can teach me how to get into the world of jazz improvisation/playing for a person who is pretty classical taught. To let you guys know the level i'm at (I don't work with grades here, Holland) i can play mondschein :P, pieces from the pianist (so chopin nocturnes etc.) just all kinds of stuff i have played for over 5 years now and i want to get to know the world of jazz/blues better cause i always have and will love jazz and blues. I love listening to it, so i want to do the same! Thanks in forward! | |

| I would think that "Metaphors for the Musician" by Randy Halberstadt is all you need. That book will give you intense reading and exercises for months and months. If you finish that book, you WILL be a jazz pianist. In addition, play diatonic chords in every key. Sincerely, Joey Manko | |
