Hi all,

at emusic, i stumbled upon two tunes you gotta hear:

first of all, 'minor meeting' by john hicks, to be found on his album "in the key of clark". His version of clark's tune is simply f***ing amazing :) Never heard it be played quite like this!!!

Second of all, there's barry harris solo playing his original "Nascimento", recorded for xanadu. Downloadable through eviews, but nowhere else to be found as far as i can recall... This is also a demonstration of how music should be played!!!

I just wanted to share this with you! These two tracks are so amazing :) Maybe not so much because of complexity or whatever, but because of timing and feel: THE single most important thing!!

Nice tips!  Added both to my saved for later (which is getting a bit outta hand!).

I've heard that album (then sold it).  It's probably wise to be *very* familiar with the originals, so as to appreciate what John Hicks is *doing* to the tunes.

It's a nice idea for an album, though -- nice compositions, nice idea to give a tribute to somebody very soft-spoken like SC.

how could you've possibly sold that album :)

Sorry :)  I should probably give it another listen -- it's been a number of years.

Nice tip on the Barry Harris on Xanadu -- I don't think I've ever heard anything less than stellar on that label.  Do you have the Jimmy Raney in Tokyo concert?  Smokin'!
