I would just say you in general you want to think "digital piano"  not "electic keyboard". There is a difference in the quality of the piano sounds you will get just looking in those too name classifications. Beyond that it becomes highly a matter of opinion.  You have to go to the big music stores and check them all out yourself and find out which one you like best because you will find much disagreement amongst forum members and famous keyboard players alike as to which is the best.  Fact is that most any  modern day digital piano on the market will suffice and it is truly just a matter of which one tickles your feather.

That is very true, the other item that affects the sound is the amplification  of the piano. Figure out what you want to spend and then try out all the ones that you can afford. If you use the time of employees and equipment at a retailer, it is my opinion, that you really should purchase your product through them.
Peace out.

You might check out the possibilty of trying (maybe renting) a keyboard on a gig before you buy it.  Often what works at home, in the studio  or through headphones, doesn't really cut it for live gigs - especially depending on what sound system your playing through - oy -it's never easy :)

I think Yamaha has the market and great piano sounding keyboards.

Congratulations!

I played the Kawai MP8, the Yamaha CP300 and the RD700SX side by side, and I chose the RD-700SX because of it's "Superior Grand" sound.

Add the SRX-12 Expansion Card and you have the best Rhodes sound in hardware.

Just don't expect an experience equal to sitting at a real grand.

wdennissorrell is right.  External speakers should be taken into consideration, and they have been discussed here before as well.
