Hi everybody,

I'm a professional classical pianist, and i want to learn some jazz. Now, what book is best for me, mark levines books or the books of Tim richards on jazz piano?

Please help....

Tim Richards is probably the better book.  I haven't reviewed the jazz one yet or spent much time with it, but the blues book is exactly what I would have been looking for back when I was switching to jazz piano after 12 years of heavy classical.

Don't get me wrong, I love The Jazz Piano book by Mark Levine. After going through that, my playing grew- my knowledge of harmony, ways of looking at things, etc.  However, it would not be as useful for someone who isn't ready for it.

So, Richards to start out with and once you've gone through his book, then check out The Jazz Piano Book
