| I was just glancing at the faculty for Centrum 2007. A bit sad to see Bill Mays not there, however, with the addition of Cedar Walton :) we're not losing much! I was waffling between going or not, but CW is a monster and man, it would be something else to pick his brain for a while. Looks like Bob Florence isn't going to be there either. Some people are there again who maybe shouldn't be. Wonder how the faculty selection process works, anyway? | |

| I love Cedar too. I am also sad to see Bill Mays and Bob Florence were not on the list. Surprised to see Tamir Hendleman (go figure) but glad to see Randy Halberstadt back again -- he's a great teacher. It also looks like they are revamping the audition process... I'm planning to go to the Aebersold Workshop this year... Ill have to see about the Centrum one when they start taking registrations... | |

| Cedar story: Many years ago, I was at a Stanford Jazz Workshop and Cedar was doing a class. He mentioned "Polka Dots and Moonbeams" as an example. A teenage boy pianist in the front row quickly sang the entire first verse of the song. Cedar looked at him quizzically: CEDAR: How old are you? BOY: Fifteen. CEDAR: You REMEMBER that song??? | |

| They're truly uppity this year and accepting or rejecting people based on the recorded audition LOL Acceptance to all workshops is on a first-come, first-served basis (except for Jazz, in which acceptance to the workshop is based on auditions. If you are not accepted, only $25 of your deposit will be retained, the remaining $75 will be refunded.).You will be accepted (space permitting) upon receipt of the registration form along with a $100 deposit, which includes a $50 non-refundable processing fee. | |

| I just looked at the site (I keep going back hoping to buy tickets) and see nothing about Cedar being there. Does anyone know if he's still on the schedule? I can't imagine he wouldn't perform on the main stage! Doesn't show in facilty either. | |

| Cedar disappeared off the faculty list some time ago. Just recently, Lynn Arriale was added to the faculty recently. Who knows when things will be finalized. Is there even a festival schedule yet? They only recently updated the audition requirements. They haven't posted any schedule for the workshop, either. Oh well, I am going to the Aebersold workshop this year. That will be my vacation. | |

| I guess this is how modern piano players "cut" each other. What would Jelly Roll say? | |

| Maybe they just jumped the gun putting Cedar on the faculty list. Maybe the arrangement fell through. Maybe Cedar has a conflict or even a health issue. You never know. | |

| Bill Weilly said that Cedar Walton suddenly realized he had a schedule conflict. I'm not going to read anything into it, but it's a shame they don't have any piano masters there now. I mean, Benny Green is good, but he's a jammer, he doesn't >know< anything, and of course Randy Halberstadt is exceptional, but he doesn't have that wealth of knowledge from experience that guys like George Cables, Bill Mays, and Bob Florence have (all of them not there this year). Porter is the same, he's a great player, but the depth of his experience doesn't compare to the guys that aren't going to be there this year. They still have that guy who plays with Hamilton, but he's like one of those little cars with big mufflers, big bass, and tiny tires- useless except for flash and noise. I'm to attend again, but if I had to pay full price I wouldn't. I'm doing a deal again this year where I'm working with vocalists three nights and running the session in town on Tuesday night, so I get a bit of a reduction in tuition. | |
