| I was having a wander round the links section recently and I came across the link to http://www.taxi.com and I wondered if any LJP members were members themselves or have had any experience of the site. I have been contemplating trying to make composition a part of my career and TAXI looks like an interesting possibility. Can anyone offer any advice about it? Many Thanks | |

| I was with them for three years, and I was VERY motivated those three years (back in my early 20's). I would not recommend using Taxi unless you're already a name that is somewhat well known. Otherwise you'll use your money and it will be like a lottery to see if you have anything the "big guys" have to offer. Better to talk to people in person if you have a product to offer. If you have movie score material or demo stuff, go to Vancouver BC or Nashville, if you think you've got what it takes to do the jazz thing, move to NY and get into that scene. The best ways are the old ways- make a name for yourself by what you do, not what you say (or put on your website) | |

| I was not a registered user of harmony central so logged in so I registered in order to read jazz+'s links. Unfortunately, I get the error message 'Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.' once I log in after clicking the links. However, I did do a search for taxi in the songwriters' forum on that site and most people seemed to be of the opinion that TAXI was at least a genuine service. The main argument against the service seemed to be that some people felt their originality was stifled as the TAXI reviewers were looking for very formulaic or idiomatic types of material and anything that did not tick the correct stylistic boxes would be rejected - even if it was great. I have to say that wouldn't really bother me too much. The way I was thinking of using TAXI would be to write material specifically to match the things they're looking for in their listings, rather than send things I have already written and hope it fits in one of those boxes. I would definitely be 'craft' rather than 'art' if I were to do this. I'd love to hear some other thoughts on this topic if anyone has any. Barry PS.
