Not sure what  "for ?????" means, but I've played a few of them too - real butt kickers :)

I wouldn't try to play them all.  I would get tired.
I don't know that "for ?????" means either.  For technique?  It certainly helps with that!

Sorry, I meant for it to mean technique or anything else. I read recently that when Dick Hyman was young he won a jazz piano contest on the radio and the prize was taking some lessons with Teddy Wilson, Wilson told him to learn the etudes. I just started working on a few and yes they are " real butt kickers "

These are some of the most demanding pieces in the classical repertoire -- I think it's a worthy goal, and there's some great music in there, but you can't just sit down and decide to play them willy-nilly.  More like a goal to set over the course of a few years (provided some competence already exists).  I'd bet Teddy Wilson was just having a bit of fun with Dick Hyman -- nobody "learns the etudes" overnight.  Some of the techniques involved are so advanced they have no practical application to straightahead jazz.

Splendid music.  What edition are you working out of?

They aren't really just "Etudes", they are Concert Etudes, studies in composition as well as pianism.  Some really fine music.  I sure as heck wouldn't learn them just for technique, but for "pianism", they are wonderful.

Some of my favourite piano pieces ever
