If you haven't heard Bob Albanese I think you will enjoy his piano.
A Native of Newark NJ where I grew up. Attended high school with his dad where we played in the School Dance Band.
He has some tunes to listen to.  Most of his stuff is original

He definitely knows how to play, but that troubling pattern that I see in a lot of contemporary players is going strong with his playing.  That is, there's a lot of music but not a lot of groove.

I see a lot of players really trying to mess with time, move around the barlines, do things that challenge them I guess, but if I can't connect to the groove of a song (unless it's supposed to be a tone poem of some kind) it's hard for me to really get into it.

I agree completely.  It sounds closer to European concert music and tends to loose it's African influence.

Sounds good to me. Just sounds like he was streching out.

I found this thread looking for a totally different one but had to stop here as Bob happens to be my online via webcam teacher.

Scot, did you take a look at his myspace? I wonder what you think of his "A Song a Robin Sings" as I really like that one.
