LearnJazzPiano.com archives: My first homemade Jazz Track recording

Hello everyone,

I'm a first time poster but a LONG time reader and I've finally mustered up the courage to post something.

I took my first stab at recording myself playing some smooth jazz.  I'm self taught and have been playing at church for about 9 years since I was 16.

The song is Infant Eyes by Wayne Shorter and I'm using the lead sheet from Mark Levine's "The Jazz Piano Book".  I used a drum track from my Casio WK-3200 and I played the bass, piano and sax on my Casio as well and multi-tracked recorded it using Audacity.

Here is the link: http://homepages.uc.edu/~strayhjr/music/InfantEyes.mp3

I'm curious to hear your comments.  I just want to get better and better!!

Thanks!!

I like it, it's well put together. However, the song died for me at 2:54, right as you start to improvize (which is what I wanted to hear the most :)

I love this album, on the same CD "Speak No Evil" made me go to the local music store to buy a tenor sax. My wife didn't let me, which was probably a good thing :)
I really dig Herbie on this one.

Thanks for the comments knotty..

I'm sorry that it's so short it was my first time recording something and I didn't wanna mess it up by going longer.  Plus I didn't have any looping software to loop the end part so I could solo the sax over it. :-)

I have that Speak No Evil CD and it's great! Highly recommend to everyone!!

Is that improvised?

Great choice of songs.  Keep goin Nati.  You definitely have something to offer.
You will find that the recording machine is like another instrument, and as such requires practice.
