LearnJazzPiano.com archives: Synth or Laptop?

I've been using a Korg N364 to play my backing tracks for years when I do live gigs. It sounds OK but it's really slow to load songs and I have to save everthing to a floopy. I want to update to something that has more memory. Maybe something like a Motif or some sort of software program that I could put on a laptop. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I enjoy Ableton live for mixing loops/backing with live performances.  You can check it out for free. Do their built in tutorials- the software is very nice and finally breaks out of the old "patch cord studio in a laptop" idea. What I mean is that they've utilized the computer to make it easier to do studio work, breaking away from emulating physical studios. Can't describe it, but check it out.
