| What do you mean by modern, any examples? I don't know if you mean smooth jazz, experimental, post-bop, etc... You could get some old Chic Corea, doesn't get more modern than that. Tunes like Matrix, Now He Sings Now He Sobs, 500 Miles High, the stuff from the old Return to Forever groups. The recording Friends has a lot of good stuff on it. If you really want to get 2007 modern, check out what Brad Mehldau is doing. It couldn't hurt to transcribe some of his stuff. He seems to be the only guy out there trying to break new ground these days. | |

| Thank you Scot. I suppose I was being a bit vague. I'm looking for some good use of running lines over 7alt, and maybe something with some chromaticism. It seems that I can run straight lines pretty easy but I struggle a bit when I want to get "outside". Also, I would like to see hear some examples of minor ii V I. I understand the theory behind this as described in some recent posts, but I would like to get it into context with some tunes. | |

| Im not sure of the details but artists like chalie parker and john coltrane use minor ii V I examples a lot. What about ornette coleman? Some of his stuff does cromatic pieces I think, really fast changes etc. | |
