I once heard a Charles Mingus track (I seem to remember it was a Jazz Workshop recording) in which the band have a kind of conversation or argument with their instruments, making them sound like human voices instead of playing improvised lines.  Does anyone know what this track is and the album it's on?  Your help appreciated.

Was that Opus I?  I don't remember the album though.

Opus 1 may have been on more than one Album but I had an Album called
"Mingus Moves"  that had "Opus 1" on it... amazing Album with Don Pullen on Piano It was one of those albums that in High School when you got home from school man... you lit a joint up than put that on with the head phones and just listened to ower and over and over and over and over again.  I can remember back then there was maybe two or three albums like that.  A John Mcglaughlin album called "Devotion" was another  and Chick Coreas "Hymn of the Seventh Galaxy" Album was another.  In my world back then smoking joints and those three albums was all I needed in my world.  If I had that I needed nothing else.

Charlie was an amazing dude.  I really only know bits and pieces of his life from interviews with other musicians.  Does anyone out there
know if there is a definitive Mingus Biography?  I swear upright bass almost won me out over piano when I first heard 'Hora Decubitus'.
