Hi, I read another thread about getting comments of your playing. I thought that perheps it would be interesting getting comments from strangers. Since you don't know me you don't know the things I don't want to hear ;)
I'm 22 years old and I've been studying jazz for 3 years now.
Here is a file where I play Wayne Shorters "Deluge" with a band I was in at school, we played a little jazz café. I included the whole song, I thought if you have time you could comment my playing on the whole song, not just the solo. Sorry for those with a slow connection, the file is 10 mb.

I'm from sweden, I think my first moving experience was when I listened to swedish pianist Jan Johansson(died 1968, was the first European to join the jazz at the philharmonic) when I was about 13 years old. I got Love Supreme when I was about 15 and liked it very much from the beginning, so yes I have listened to jazz a large part of my life.
I've been playing piano for more then 3 years, but just at home and with almost no lessons.

I am moving to Sweden next week (for a year). More exactly I will live in Goeteburg. You have any recommendations regarding pianists, music schools, records stores, concert venues etc.

well, i havn't been in göteborg that much at all. The only jazz club I know of is Nefertiti which is very nice. In stockholm they have "Fasching" and in Malmö they have "Jeriko".
About musicschools they have the gothenburg music conservatory wih an "improvisation music" program. Most of the best jazz players study at gothenborg or stockholms conservatories.
In sweden we also have someting very good named folkhögskolor, transleted to something like "folk university". Its a free of charge education with no gradings. You can study many things including afroamercian music. I go to a school called Fridhem which is a very good school. The folk universitys are often located in country side. Its commen that you go to one(or several) of the folk universitys before you get in to one of the conservaties.
Regarding pianists i'm not shure if you mean teachers or just good players you can go see. Bobo Stenson is a very original good player, i wish i had seen one of his concert with his trio. Esbjörn Svensson Trio is a swedish trio, they must be the most famous swedish jazz group today.
Can't think of so many others. I don't go se that many concerts actually.

Very nice that you're moving to sweden. Perheps we'll meet at nefertiti sometime. Brad Mehldau is comming in August.

Trocadero- you're a perfect example and could be an inspiration to people who don't play music but love it and KNOW what jazz is.  I have a friend who knows more about what good music should be than a lot of musicians I know.  He plays piano, but on an amateur level, but when I works out a song it sounds great because he knows the language of jazz.

Just like you, your playing shows you know the language.  Now comes the easy part- taking what you know and laying it down on the piano, and you're already doing it.
