LearnJazzPiano.com archives: MP3 Players

I have a Zen Nomad MP3 player that I really like but the earphone jack is bad.  I can send it in for a motherboard replacement but thought I might just get a new one as I've had this a while now.  And I really don't want to go throught the whole RMA thing.

Anyway, turns out that Creative (the maker of the Zen) no longer includes EAX Audio features -- that's the stuff that let's you play things at differnt speeds.  This is a must-have for me.

Can anyone recommend another player that's still on the market that has this kind of feature.  I'm looking for a 30gb disk size (or bigger).

TIA,
Scott

Resistance is Futile.  I tried for years as well.  treat the variable speed issure as seperate with seperate software ie "amazing slowdowner" or other.  give in to Ipod products for mp3.  best quality best sound.
I tried to awoid it with creative products and others for years.
I am happy i finally gave in.  Resistance is futile.

Hmm, you may be right but don't have have to dink around with straight mp3s to get them on the ipod?  I don't do any DRM stuff -- just on principle.

I guess I'll get my Zen repaired.  And, Mike, maybe I will check out the ipod -- I have a friend who uses one and gets much of his music from the same place I do.  He's geekier than I am but maybe it's not all that bad...

Love your opening line -- and no doubt you are right.  Sigh...

My son has a re-occurring problem with his Zen freezing up.  At that point he cannot power it down or anything.  He just waits until the battery dies, then recharges it...otherwise it's a cool machine - nice little video screen and outs to connect to TV

This EAX thing, does it alter pitch?

EAX does not alter pitch.  It allows for 75% or 50% speeds.  Windows Media Player does this for some things (although not for Jamie right off the CD -- don't have ripped stuff on this box or I'd check it) and has much better granularity.

On the Zen there is a pinhole for reset.  Never failed me.  It may have to rebuild the library but no biggie.  It does freeze up occasionally.  I think I updated the bios once but that shouldn't be essential.
