| I'm thinking about moving to Seattle. I'm getting tired of los angeles it's so dry and hot all the time. Today it was 112 degrees. I want to move to Seattle because its nice and cool and it rains. I like rain. Does anyone here live in Seattle? How do you like it there? Hows the job market and home prices? | |

| I live across the sound from Seattle, and I have worked in Seattle. The job market depends on your field. Housing costs are really inflated here, but coming from California it will probably not appear so bad to you. The Salary-to-Cost-of-Living Ratio here is pretty bad. Meaning, that the salary levels here do not make up for the high cost of living. The State of Washington also imposes high taxes and fees for everything. It's a very bloated, incompetent, and corrupt state government, in my opinion. But I digress. Seattle has a pretty nice local jazz scene. And it's beautiful -- the natural beauty is overwhelming. Seattle is the pleasure boating capital of the U.S. There's all kinds of outdoor stuff to do, and all the wildlife is great. People are more reserved here. In fact, I'd call them "passive". A difference I noticed, moving here from Colorado. I now understand what a "sunny disposition" truly means. Also, if you like spicy food, you will be frustrated here. It's the land of the bland. But it's beautiful, and there's a good jazz scene. Yes, it's cooler than So Cal. It rains more, too. But not all the time. One thing that gets to me is the darkness (not the rain). We have very long days in July, but the darkness comes on really fast as fall approaches. It's the latitude and the all-year low-light conditions. So, I'm ambivalent... | |

| I work at the post office as a rural carrier. I don't really care about the jazz scene because I don't know how to play jazz piano although I'm trying, but no progress. I like the fact that there are lots of trees and like you said natural beauty. Why is it that people in Seattle are reserved. I'm pretty reserved and mellow as well so obviously L.A doesn't fit my personality. | |

| sorry , I can't tell you much about Seattle other than I've been and liked it. I was born and raised in LA, and now I live TX. I think it was a good move for me musically. Gigs are hard to get everywhere but LA is ridiculus. I mean even some of those heavy weight studio guys out there do casuals and such on their down time. | |

| I would not recommend Seattle- I lived there for 20 or so years, can't stand it. Nice weather, but the traffic is the worst and people aren't friendly like they used to be. Plus, as Cyn said, housing prices are totally inflated because of all the rich cats from Microsoft and other electronic money sources. If you're looking for a nice place, check out Portland Oregon. Similar weather (a bit colder sometimes in the winter) and a nice music scene. I've toyed with moving there many times, but I really like Bellingham, WA, where I live. The only main problem is that there aren't any gigs here- I always have to go to Seattle or Vancouver BC. | |
