Hello,

I've been working on mixing a solo acoustic piano album. Jazz piano tends to be very mid-high heavy because I think people are used to having the acoustic bass fill up the low frequencies.

That being said, I would still like to hear the sound files with some bass. Does anyone have any recommendations on good, quality headphones? I'm not willing to pay the $550 I've seen, but I might be O.K. with half of that. Any advice?

Thanks!

I like the Grado SR80.

I paid $155 for my Sennheiser 595's.  The one pair of Grado's I tried (150's I think? or 125's) were kind of harsh.

Actually, if you're using them for professional purposes, with your budget you could spring for the HD600's for somewhere between 200-300 bucks.

Are you looking for a really nice headphone?  Or are you aiming for a set of cans that are specifically aimed towards monitoring and mixing?

Thanks for the help!

I'm primarily looking for mixing headphones. I also do electronic music, and most people listen to that kind of music on actual speakers, but hopefully I could get headphones that would have the kind of low freq range that could encompass heavy "beat" bass AND a more acoustic piano sound...

i love the beyerdynamic dt831 which should be in your price range. they are very comfortable because they have fuzzy ear cups that don't get sweaty.
