LearnJazzPiano.com archives: Good Instructional Program
dperkins -- 09/23/2007, 14:27:54 -- #37235
Does anyone recommend an intermediate/advanced book that has a good layout for a jazz instructional program?  I don't want to spend the money on a teacher, but I do need the structure and guidance of lessons.

Any help would be appreciated.

Also check out Nor's book:

There's also tons of stuff in the rooms here. Check out Albetan's or 7's room for instance.

Great suggestions!  I have Metaphors for the Musician and find it to be more "spritual" or "abstract" than practical.  But if you disagree, please tell me and I will look at it again.  I've had it for years.

I also have the Jazz Piano Book by Mark Levine and found that each lesson is a bit short and I need more explanation.  It's a good one, though.

Does anyone know any books that do a good job of explaining improvisation techniques?

I think the Dave Frank books would be good for you since you mention you don't want to be with a private instructor. All his examples are recorded so you get to here how they sound.

Hi,

If you're going to post links to your commercial site, I would sure appreciate it if you'd put a link to learnjazzpiano.com on it, it would be the decent thing to do.
