Any good places to go for a start to jazz theory? Is there any books and where can I get them? also I need to work on "fingering workout" on piano.....any good excercises? also....jazz chords...is it just a matter playing them over and over to get round them? What sort of chords give that big, chunky base sound to suppport soloists? I've formed a quintet and would like to learn how to support the soloist more with using chords. any help?
Stu

Hi Stuart:
Are you looking for stuff about jazz chords? Please go to search engine (upwards at right corner) and write "chords" selecting "files".

Ther is a lot of what you're looking for here at LJP,follow the above or use "room map" to find this ..... there's a lot of stuff on the web,too....if you go to 360 degrees, you'll find a file I posted called 'Reference Guide' which has links to a lot of the sites you want....take some time to explore what's online and you'll find everything you need to get this kind of stuff together.....if you are having trouble finding things let us know and we'll post the exact links....using the LL as a source of this type of thing is also a good idea,if you look at the threads here and (also at the older forum)you'll find links I've posted to sites that deal with fingering....

As a trumpet player you already are familiar with how to practice stuff to internalize it,re-"playing them over and over to get round them",but you want to make sure that you're working on the right stuff...like the "classical repertoire and classical etudes, exercises,"etc, there is a corresponding amount of jazz-specific stuff to set up a practice routine around..give yourself a few weeks to get yours together(along with the advice, suggestions,
info, etc.we'll give you here.....) and you'll be in  good shape.....
