LearnJazzPiano.com archives: Jobim's firstname?

My question is really for Albetan, but I wanted to post it here in case anyone else would find it interesting...

Here goes, I went to http://www.ethosbrasil.com/nav/partit.htm (thanks to Albetan) and noticed that Jobim tunes were credited to Tom Jobim.  I had always thought his name was Antonio Carlos Jobim,  Is "Tom" a sort of Latino nickname for "Antonio"?

Tom was Jobim's lifelong nickname. Tom is the nickname for "Antonio" in Portuguese.

You are right, Tom is a nickname for Antonio.
Antonio Carlos Jobim for myself is the greatest composer in LatinAmerica.
You are giving to me the credits for that excellent site... but i knew it thanks to smg.

Antonio's grandson is touring with John Pizzarelli.  I saw them in Edmonton AB.  Daniel Jobim (the grandson) came on for a bossa nova set and sang and played a little piano.  It was a nice touch.

hmmm...a friend of mine, Ray Kennedy, is touring with John....I didn't know about Jobim's son...

p, check out Pizzarelli's newer CD called Bossa Nova.  Just got it yesterday.  Ray sounds tremendous!  I always hated One Note Samba until I heard him solo over it.  Actually attempted to transcribe it last night.
