| I just posted this message in the monthly standards room, but I thought I'd cross post it here, so that more people might answer, it seems to be little traffic in the monthly standards room, which I think is a pity, because it is truly a great feature, and more people shold use it. Allthough I didn't create this room, and don't know it's intentions, but I do believe that it has a tremendous potential. Beginners can post their stuff and get feedback suggestions and tips from experienced players like Scot, 7, Barry and others. And experienced players can compare their chops, exchange ideas. Everyone can benefit from this. Interactive hands-on learning, over a global community, that's awsome! I encourage everyone to post a version of the songs noted as monthly standards and I hope the interest will grow, and I promis to try as good as I can to contribute. I am allready working hard on the suggestions give to me with "How high the moon", and now I am looking deep into this months standard "Fly me to the moon". I promise to post a new version of "How high" soon. In my attempt to dig deep into this months standard I have a question for everyone: Anyone have any kewl suggestions for substitution or other ideas for this song? On my sheet the chords are: 4/4 version A: |Am |Dm7 |G7 |C C7 | |F |Bm7b5 |E7 |Am A7 | |Dm7 |G7 |C |A7 |Dm7 |G7 |Fm C |E7 | B: |Am |Dm7 |G7 |C C7 | |F |Bm7b5 |E7 |Am A7 | |Dm7 |G7 |E7#5 |A7b9 |Dm7 |G7 |C | I think it's that way, if I remember correctly :) I guess you can substitue the Fm chord for a Dbmaj or an Ab6 which are all the same chord or related. Maybe you could also make it a diminished for more tension? Like Fdim? And you could swap the A7b9 for a Gdim. And the Bm7b5 could be a Fdim to or a F6b5. The E7#5 can be a C#5 to. And some of the 2 - 5 - 1's can be done with 3 - 6 - 2 - 5 - 1 instead. Am I getting this substitution thing now? Anyone else have other more exciting suggestions? I'm also working on an intro in 3/4 like the original and then slide into a 4/4 swing feel, I hope I get it right :) Cheers! Doc-Z | |
