| I used to have piano lessons, until about 4 years ago. I Played 3/4 years, something like that. I have learned the basics, however never learned to play chords. Now (4 years later) I want to start playing again. However, just for fun. Messing around a bit, just pick up some funky sheetmusic from the internet, stuff like that. However, to make my music sound better, I want to learn chords. Now my question is, Can I just learn it from internet, Do you recommend me to buy some books about it, or even take lessons for it? Because I looked at it for a seccond, and It looked a bit complicated. | |

| well since you're only doing it for fun, I wouldn't recommend buying any books unless you think they might be fun:) It sounds though that you might be more serious about it than you think, in which case I would recommend lessons...when we get better, we have more fun... | |

| Well I don't know what method suits you best. But most song compilation books ala "Hits of the 90s" and other fake books have chord diagrams in them. There are many webpages on the net with chordgenerators. Search for "A passion for jazz" on google and you'll find one. However I believe you should learn how chords are formed and built up, that will give you a better understanding of the concept, than memorizing chord structures will. Look at some of the files here on this site. Scot and Albetan for instance have some good files dealing with this topic. Doc-Z | |
