| Hi Everything I have learnt about So What voicings has come from this site. Can they be inverted for voice leading / fitting in with the melody note...or does this change the character of the chords so that they are no longer 'So What'??? When I say inverted, I mean keeping the bass note in the same place and rearranging the chord notes in the right hand (assuming a split between LH bass and right hand chord). Many thanks Bro' Davies Bristol | |

| If you change the so what scheme yo are doing other kind of voicing. Melody is harmonized by a third downwards and this note is harmonized by quartals. E A D G B D G C F A | |

| Mark Levine comps the So What voicing in both root position and first inversion. Root position for D-7 So What ( often moves to E-7 neighbor) D G C F A 1st Inversion for D-7 G C F A D (looks kind of like a G7 sus)(also often moves to it's upper neighbor) | |

| Levine also adds the Hi C on top of the root position So What voicing D G, C F A C He also sometimes omits the Root | |
