| Has anybody out there read the book "Building a Jazz Vocabulary" by Mike Steinel? It received some nice reviews on Amazon. I believe the main focus is building solos. It is not a keyboard-specific book. Is it interesting? Useful? Interesting and useful? None of the above? | |

| I just bought the book off amazon last week. it's defintely a book on solo/improvisation. It's too early to tell if it's any good or not for me. I bought it b3cause of the positive reviews on amazon. I don't know improv yet, but i'd like to be able to add a 'fill in' here and there during measures with long rests/no melody. another book i just got from amazon that i really like is one on solo jazz piano. very very good. it's not about improv/soloing per se, just about being the only member of the band (piano) and how to play given that context. and that's me: i play for myself, no bass, no trumpet, no drums: Just me and my piano. SOlo play. This book i really like. | |
