Ok. IN the movie fabulous baker boys, there's the song Makin' Whoopee. I don't know who the piano player is.

but to me, this is the ultimate sound of a rich jazz ballad.

Does anyone have any idea how to 'fatten' up the chords/voicings on the lead sheet to try and achieve a similar sound?

(i'm a jazz noob/hobbiest). Any ideas how to get a transcription of this song? also, any ideas who the piano player is?

The piano player is Dave Grusin. Not a great jazz pianist, but he does a decent job on this track. The soundtrack is available from GRP records.

Wow...I'd have to say that Grusin does more than a "decent job on this track"  He is one of the all-time legends - especially in producing...to me he has a very disinguishing style - I don't think the fact that he does more than play jazz should take away from artistic say...

and that movie!!  truly depicts the scene - I think I've known and even been, both of those guys

IŽm not saying that i donŽt dig Dave Grusin, i have a huge GRP collection. IŽm just saying that usually he doesnŽt sound very convincing in a straight ahead jazz context.

OK, i take back the term "decent job". Dave does a good job in this movie, i like it too. For an even better jazz movie, check out "MoŽBetter Blues".
