En muchos textos confunden a los estudiantes al describir los modos de Jazz como Modos Eclesiásticos o Gregorianos, y por eso mismo aquí se estudia independientemente cada tema para evitar confusiones.

Los modos en Jazz y en la música clásica y popular se usan como un recurso melódico para la composición y para la improvisación. En Jazz se trabaja con las 12 tonalidades, y como en cada una hay 7 modos, resultan 84 modos de Jazz.

Los modos en el Canto Gregoriano sirven también como recurso melódico para la composición, y además como centro tonal en su armonía. Un canto en un modo determinado finaliza con la nota fundamental del modo. Por ejemplo un canto en modo Frigio, termina en la nota MI. En el canto Gregoriano hay 12 modos, y si se considera el modo plagal como una prolongación del modo auténtico, en realidad son solo 6 modos en los que se encuentran todos los cantos.

El objetivo de este blog es capacitar al estudiante de piano para improvisar melodías con los modos de Jazz. Estudiando cuidadosamente los conceptos de este blog, y practicando cada ejercicio hasta dominarlo en todas las tonalidades, logrará muy pronto ese objetivo.

Volume 3 contains 12 jazz piano exercises and explorations by the acclaimed jazz piano educator, pianist, author, and recording artist Tim Richards.
