hi!
back again :) i wish i could devote more time to absorbing all the information here, but i have been busy with kids running a home business etc!
i go back to school on monday. first time since 1997. not nervous... but... i am taking applied piano and music appreciation 19th century to present, and grrr pre-calc! haha  33 years old and goin to school! i know its not unheard of but at 18, i figured i would have a masters degree by now!!
i was curious, any of you who have music degrees, did you do it full time or part time? were you right out of high school or after a break from education?
i really want to major in music, however looking at the curriculum and the choice of schools in the area i may just finish a general studies degree, and fill my electives with music classes. i graduate with an as in december and want to transfer to a 4 year school here and ultimately enter the music department for a bm with teaching credentials. if i opt not to do  this, i will still get my teaching credentials only as an elementary school teacher. i am really curious on anyone's take on majoring in music.  i have a friend who is majoring in music, and a very accomplished jazz pianist... and he says its just a formality for him... but he wants that "piece of paper".  i  am just worried that its not attainable as a part time student with all the jurie classes, applied music... etc... when i transfer to a 4 year college i will have 6 units (minimum in music classes) and 4 unitis in applied music, which is essentially freshman year stuff. so i would have to play catch up a bit.
i hope its ok to post this here scott... you all have such a welth of information!!

btw smg, i am working on debussy's petit negro and i have it down. i have bach's 2 part invention #8 down, and chopin's prelude #4 down, and almost down, joplin's solace... having trouble in the 2nd theme with the "grace notes" but its coming together... my first lesson is next week. i cant wait!!!
There is one comment, leave a comment.
good luck with everything denise.....lay back and take it easy....do as much as you want but not too much......sounds good re-pieces....you get a chance to check out those etudes of debussy yet?the patterns in them are really worth working on.....re-school,i'm not the one to ask..(1 yr at nec..)
